Urban Regeneration of James St. North, Policy recommendations
This paper provides a selected summary of how James Street North in Hamilton became the catalyst for the revitalization of the downtown area. We chronicle the major factors that led to its regeneration and the effect it had on the reputation of Hamilton as a city evolving from an industrial past. Our interactions with stakeholders in the area gave us valuable information about the role culture played in improving the economic conditions of James street and how the municipal government capitalised on this movement to incentivise further development in the area. Finally, we make some recommendations from our perspective as graduate students interested in the concept of a Livable City.
